Creation Care

All over the world Christian communities are waking up to the urgent need to care for God’s beloved creation. While much of our country is taking environmental action in response to the fear of ecological disaster, churches can mobilize the Body of Christ to take action based on the hope that Jesus came to restore the goodness of creation.

The Bible has a lot to say about humanity’s relationship to, and responsibility for, creation.  Learning from scripture is a good place to begin a rich and important journey towards holistic and holy stewardship of God’s Earth. A good understanding of environmental issues and the obedient Christian response can lead our community towards more meaningful worship and more authentic ways of living.

Here are some ways to care for God’s creation in Strathmore and beyond:

A Rocha Canada
A Rocha is an international Christian conservation organization working to show God’s love for all creation. They work out a commitment to environmental action through community-based conservation projects, with a focus on science and research, practical conservation, and environmental education. Their name comes from the Portuguese for “the Rock,” as the first initiative was a field study centre in Portugal. A Rocha projects are frequently cross-cultural in character and share a community emphasis.

Take action: Here’s some suggestions for “living lightly” at home.

Climate Stewards
God has given us a beautiful world. Now the climate is changing fast, due to our carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Calculate and offset your “carbon footprint” using A Rocha’s excellent Climate Stewards website. Climate Stewards’ innovative tropical reforestation projects reduce CO₂ in the air, help local communities facing poverty to support themselves, and protect wildlife.
