The Arts at Hope

Take up your cross, says Christ.

For many, those familiar words pose an ultimate challenge. But what if Jesus told you to take up your paintbrush?—to take up your dance shoes, your pad and pen, your camera, scissors, guitar, or script? What if you passionately believed that the longing in you to make art was a stirring of the Creator’s Spirit?

Here’s a list of some of ways the arts are embraced among us. Join us by contacting the team leader listed below.

Tapestry
An art gallery and performance night featuring works created by Hope Community in a coffeehouse setting. Since the beginning of time God has been weaving a beautiful design into the fabric of God’s people. Within God’s vast, ongoing work of creation and redemption, God has given us creative gifts. The purpose of Tapestry is threefold: to widen our horizons about the arts in Christian life, to help share our creative work and to promote excellence in the arts to glorify God. This event occurs annually in February or March - get your creative work finished in time to offer it at Tapestry. (Johanna Jackins & Steve Waldschmidt)

Sunday: Worship Arts
Life without worship is a contradiction in terms. Just as God made people for food and water and warmth, he made us for thanksgiving, praise, reverence, and awe. And just as it is God’s nature to overflow with blessing to the world, he made humanity in his image to respond back in overflowing expressions of blessing. These expressions of worship often take shape as song, poetry, movement, story, image, music - as art.
